Community Caring & Sharing - Indianapolis

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful enlisted Mader Design to work with the Mars Hill community, Community Caring & Sharing, and Palmer Trucks, the Arts Council, and KIB staff to develop a consensus for the development of an old gravel truck parking lot. We helped the group select appropriate artists to develop sculpture for the pocket park, and engaged collaboratively with them to develop site concepts. Those concepts were vetted with the project team and honed into the master plan, providing community garden space, native plantings, separation from the adjacent roadway, sculpture, seating, and shade. The end result, opened in 2018 by the Mayor and Community Leaders after hundreds of hours of volunteer work and community partnerships, is a pocket park that serves as a gathering point for the community and a respite from its industrial surroundings.
