Craig Park

Mader Design worked with Greenwood Parks & Recreation and DLZ Indiana for design and construction of an amphitheater lawn at Craig Park. The City of Greenwood planned to remove two underutilized softball fields at Craig Park in order to build new Department of Public Works facilities. To activate the remaining space not used by Greenwood DPW, Greenwood Parks desired design and construction plans for an event lawn between the proposed facilities and the existing parking lot. Mader Design's work included grading design of the sloped amphitheater lawn, locating the stage/presentation area, designing sidewalks for accessibility to the stage area and lawn, and connecting to the existing trail system. Mader Design coordinated with electrical engineers to relocate electrical access to the stage and provide lighting for egress from night events.

Additional park enhancements included tree preservation of significant specimens adjacent to the parking lot, with retaining walls to protect the root zones of the trees. As part of the tree preservation effort, Mader Design created interpretive signage design commemorating "Greenwood's oldest tree", a chinquapin oak that is estimated to be over 300 years old.
