Mader Design worked with Samaritan Companies and CrossRoad Engineers for the design of an outdoor living courtyard for Encore 55+ Boutique Apartments, a luxury senior living community. The courtyard, designed with the interests of older adults in mind, provides a mix of garden landscape features and active spaces, balancing both formal courtyard elements and outdoor activities to promote healthy aging-friendly programs.

The courtyard includes an outdoor gathering space with amenities including a fire pit, patio, and an outdoor kitchen. Outdoor activities are promoted throughout the courtyard with the addition of pickleball courts, bocce ball courts, a dog park, and sidewalk paths that provide residents with walking connections from their home to the parking area and amenities. A naturalized planted water feature and planting beds throughout the courtyard include a mix of colorful native planting selections and longtime garden favorites for residents to enjoy.
